You’ve said what’s been quietly stirring in my head since 2016. TBH I was ready & willing to fight after that election. That we’re still rolling along in fear of Trump & Republicans w/o a bare knuckle in sight is extremely worrying to me.
Remember the plans made by unions and progressive orgs for this very purpose? They need to plan again, knowing it's FAR MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN. And action begins the day after the election. The last ten or twenty years in the US could be told as a story of peaceful protests sweeping the country -- Occupy Wall Street; teachers in middle America pushing back against anti-teacher radicalism of the right; the Womens March after Trump took power (arguably the single biggest global protest ever) and the same rally one year later; people of every race led by black people in thousands of Black Lives Matter protests. And they've had a massive and real impact. If the military stages a coup, violent protests will be a waste of time. It's only mass, peaceful action that can beat that. People power won in Eastern Europe in 1989 and 1990 and toppled the Soviet Union. It kicked the world's biggest empire out of India. It can work here too. And you're right; we need to expect its necessity.
Yes, I'm not worried about the military. I'm worried about republicans simply stealing it "legally." And the left being paralyzed in response. Were there going to be nationwide protests, they'd have to shut everything down for good, until things are fixed.
