The DOJ is treating the January 6 coup as little more than a traffic infraction. If Merrick Garland can't figure out that it was an assault on our democracy, Biden should find someone who can.
Yes, Garland seems more concerned about appearances and what conservatives will say about him rather than enforcing the law and protecting democracy. But is it politically feasible for Biden to fire him? Does Garland have support at DOJ or is the rank-and-file disgruntled at his milquetoast approach to the attempted coup? And would Dem support Biden in firing him? Given the independent nature or what SHOULD be the independent nature of the Attorney General, is pushing Garland out even correct?
