I understand and agree with what you wrote. As an old white guy that thought we had won these same battles back in the 60s and 70s, I too am angry that we still MUST fight to win. Acronyms can help and hurt a cause, just as you pointed out. Many people my age, even if reading Twitter, may Google terms they do not understand. However, it was only last night watching Jonathan VanNess’ Netflix show I truly understood “non-binary”. Is that the + you are talking about? The only way we can win is to quit getting our fucking feelings hurt and EXPLAIN to allies WTF people are talking about. Thank you for laying this out so clearly.

And yep, on gay stuff, long ago I committed myself to answering any "stupid" question so long as it was asked in earnest. By someone who truly wanted to understand. The stuff I've answered over the years! But honestly, I've welcomed it. Each time was a new opportunity to help bring someone closer to our cause. I loved it. This is a bad attitude by younger activists, and it's dangerous to the movement. Civil rights isn't some participate trophy you win by simply showing up. You, sadly, have to fight for them. And a lot of younger activists think that's offensive. Then they're going to lose a lot.

I don't think the + means non-binary. I think it means either "everyone," or "everyone else." Honestly, I do this stuff for a living, and I don't know what it means.

Yes, yes, yes! Explain every time you use an acronym.

It's basic communications 101. I even do it when I use a word that I then think people may not know. I used the word "animus" in a recent Tiktok, and then though, hmm. So I added "hate" 'anger"
