YouTube permanently bans RightWingWatch for holding the far-right accountable
RightWingWatch, run by People for the American Way, has long exposed far-right hate. YouTube is now blaming RightWingWatch, blaming it for the hate that it is simply exposing.
So, yeah, I may have missed publishing the Week in News this past Saturday. Sorry! But here’s a story to get your blood boiling.
Google-owned YouTube has permanently banned famed far-right watchdog RightWingWatch for posting hateful content, when in fact RightWingWatch was busy exposing far-right hate.
And now, RightWingWatch can never return to YouTube, because they did their job too well.
I have had similar problems with YouTube over the years. When I was reporting on Russian neo-Nazis group that regularly kidnapped gay and trans Russians, and then posted video of their abduction and torture online, YouTube accused “me” of posting anti-gay content by simply reporting on the crimes!
Google’s AdSense did something similar to me just the other day regarding the same content — they accused me of posting anti-gay hate by simply exposing Russia’s anti-gay hate!
It appears the same thing has now happened to RightWingWatch. Because they post clips of the far-right acting like heathens, YouTube is now holding RightWingWatch accountable for the hate in those clips.
This smacks of politics. There is no way that YouTube isn’t familiar with RightWingWatch. There is also no way that YouTube doesn’t know that RightWingWatch doesn’t endorse the hate that it exposes. YouTube is doing this on purpose. Either some far-right YouTube/Google employees have made it their mission to take down RightWingWatch, or YouTube has been forced to take down so many far-right terrorists of late that they felt the need to take down a token liberal, even if it’s unjustified, in order to “both sides” the issue, and “prove” their impartiality. So what if one of America’s premiere anti-hate group is crippled as a result.
Google and other Internet/social media companies have too much power to get it wrong. They cannot be permitted to control so much of the Internet, to the point where they can make or break people and organizations, unless they can figure out how to enforce their rules fairly. There is simply no excuse for YouTube treating People for the American Way as a hate group.
It’s time for YouTube and Google to do a little less evil.
