Trump's latest scandals
In just 11 days, Trump is quite possibly a worse president than he was the last time around.
How do you even write about this guy? He’s just so blatantly incompetent. Such an embarrassment, and such a danger. We’re not even two weeks into Trump’s latest presidency, and so far, Trump has:
Threatened trade war with Canada, Mexico, China, which would make US inflation soar.
Threatened war with Denmark and Greenland, and a trade war which would, first off, end Danish sales of Ozempic to America.
Threatened war with Panama to get the canal.
Threatened to bomb Gaza if hostages not returned.
Refused disaster aid to California unless they pass voter ID laws.
Major mid-air plane collision after Elon Musk forced out ahead of the FAA, then Trump blamed it on Biden, Obama, and DEI hires, along with blaming the military pilot, when he had no evidence for any of the accusations. Then we found out that Trump himself created the DEI program at FAA that he criticized during the press conference.
Puts 25% and 50% tariff on Columbia, risking massive increase in coffee prices, and destroying our relationship with top Latin American ally.
Cuts off cancer research and international AIDS funding.
Elon Musk told a fascist rally in Germany that we spend too much time worrying about the Holocuast.
Bans Black history at the Air Force, killing a video of the Tuskegee airmen and about women WASP pilots in World War II.
The Federal Reserve now says it may not lower interest rates as much because of the risk of Trump inflation.
Chooses two Fox News hosts to be Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Transportation. Good thing those two agencies don’t even have anything important to do, like investigate an air crash, or it might be a problem picking two people so utterly unqualified for those jobs.
Pardons 1,500 January 6 insurrectionists, including those who beat the police.
Picks Assad apologist Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence
Picks anti-vaxxer Robert F Kennedy Jr. for HHS head.
Picks complete wackjob Kash Patel for FBI Director.
Picks Matt Gaetz for Attorney General.
Elon Musk gave what appeared to be a Nazi salute at Trump’s inaugural.
Removed security for multiple officials being targeted by Iranian death squads, simply because Trump is angry at them.
Is investigating four-star-general Milley, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and trying to remove Milley’s fourth star, because Milley refused Trump’s suggestion that he use the US military to shoot peaceful American protesters.
And all that misses A LOT of what Trump did in just the past 11 days./
It’s hard to know what to say. We voted for him — I didn’t, you probably didn’t, but the country did. We deserve everything he’s doing to destroy this country and destroy the world. FAFO. Choices have consequences. We tell our children this, but somehow expect that we’re exempt from the consequences of our choices when we’re adults. Yeah, not really. This country chose fascism and incompetence, boorishness and immorality and mental illness. That’s what they wanted in a president: a low-class, low-intelligence, regular guy full of grievance and hate.
I hate being this negative! But he is going to be as bad as we expect, and probably worse. This time, Trump knows what he’s doing, and his staff knows. They’ve had these jobs before, there is no learning curve. They can cause maximal damage on day one, and they are. The ONLY possible saving grace is that voters get sick of him. That voters suddenly wake up from their collective amensia, and remember they hate this guy. And that may help us in the mid-term congressional elections (though I’m told the Senate looks bad next election as well), but it’s not gonna help us get rid of him. We’re stuck with Trump, or Vance, for the next four years.
Now, that doesn’t mean we don’t keep fighting. I know, the temptation is just to turn it all off and accept that we’re screwed. But, while Trump is teflon when it comes to felonies, we saw during his first term that the PR disasters do tend to add it. They cause damage to his reputation, and the damage builds over time. Like radiation poisoning. It’s collective. We already had an early win, with Trump’s ban on Black military history being taught in the Air Force — that blew up in his face, and he quickly reversed himself. Trump banned “DEI” at the Pentagon, basically anything dealing with civil rights or diversity, and that included banning any mention of the Tuskegee airmen, a group of Black pilots who valiantly helped us fight the Nazis in World War II. The Pentagon pulled a video about Tuskegee from their basic training materials in response to Trump’s DEI ban. They also pulled a video about women WASPs who flew planes stateside during WWII. There was such an uproar over both that Trump was forced to quickly reverse himself.
The lesson being: The man isn’t invincible.
PS Trump just announced that his new tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada start tomorrow. And his press secretary just suggested that Black people at the FAA caused the plane crash. Guys, these people haven’t even been in power two weeks.
Incompetent??? This is hilarious
