Trump has dinner with Nick Fuentes, one of America's top white supremacists
Donald Trump had dinner this week with Kanye West, and Kanye’s guest, Nick Fuentes, one of the most vile white supremacists in America.
Axios and the New York Times have both confirmed that Donald Trump had dinner on Tuesday with Kanye West, and Kanye’s guest, Nick Fuentes, one of the most vile white supremacists in America.
It’s difficult for me to explain just how bad Fuentes is. You really have to see the 24 y.o. Mexican-American’s (oh yes) videos to fully appreciate it. If you’re familiar with former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan David Duke, multiply Duke by 1000. I am not joking.
I remember a video of Fuentes I watched a few months ago. Fuentes, in his signature jacket and tie, giggled his way through some of the worst racism and antisemitism that you’ll hear coming out of anyone’s mouth. (Fuentes is a fan of the n-word.) In the episode below, Fuentes laughingly explains how it was impossible that six million Jews could have been murdered during the Holocaust, by comparing the murders in Nazi concentration camps to baking cookies in the oven.
Let’s put a finer point on this. Earlier this year, Fuentes held an annual conference at which GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green and Paul Gosar spoke. Green famously stood on stage with Fuentes, smiling and holding hands. During his keynote address at the same conference, Fuentes spoke admiringly of Adolf Hitler. “They compare Putin to Hitler, like that’s a bad thing.”
Continuing her affinity for Fuentes, this past week Green called for Fuentes and David Duke, among others, to be unbanned from Twitter.
So we have a former GOP president and current presidential candidate, two sitting Republican members of Congress, and GOP darling Kanye West all now embracing Fuentes.
But let’s get back to Trump. Trump would have us believe that he didn’t know Fuentes was attending, or who Fuentes even was until the news broke long past Fuentes’ departure from Mar-a-Lago. Here is Trump’s statement to Axios:
"Kanye West very much wanted to visit Mar-a-Lago. Our dinner meeting was intended to be Kanye and me only, but he arrived with a guest whom I had never met and knew nothing about."
So, Trump would have us believe that:
He didn’t know Kanye was bringing Fuentes.
When Fuentes arrived with Trump, Trump just let Fuentes join them at a private three-person dinner, even though Trump didn’t know who Fuentes was.
No one on Trump’s staff, or the Secret Service, recognized Fuentes. (The guy’s voice is unmistakable.)
The Secret Service didn’t demand a background check on this stranger appearing at an intimate dinner with the former president.
And if the Secret Service did know Fuentes was coming, they had no problem with one of America’s top white supremacists joining Trump? Or did Trump overrule the Secret Service? Which takes us back to Trump knowing full well who Fuentes is.
Let’s not forget that during the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he had no idea who David Duke was, after Duke endorsed Trump for president. Trump is also a serial liar. So take Trump’s denials with a big grain of salt:
“Just so you understand, I don’t know anything about David Duke, OK? I don’t know anything about what you’re even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So I don’t know…. Because I know nothing about David Duke; I know nothing about white supremacists.”
This just keeps getting worse and worse. And meanwhile, Democrats do nothing in response. What would I have Dems do? Well, the guy who is the GOP’s lead presidential candidate, their former president, and the head of their party, just had dinner with a race-baiting, Jew-hating bigot who makes the former grand wizard of the KKK downright respectable in comparison. Meanwhile, a lead GOP member of Congress makes a public appeal on behalf of the same bigot, after having spoken at his conference where he praised Adolf Hitler.
Do you think there might just be an opportunity to brand the Republican party, from their presidential candidate to their incoming House majority, as slightly out of touch with America?
